My first performance as a trainee with Portland Taiko was at a workshop in the Central Library in April 2016. Since then, I’ve learned pieces such as Ha!, Unity, To Fly, Amaterasu, and Midare Matsuri, and I like them all because they require different techniques. At each practice, one of the artistic directors introduces a rhythmic drill. Sometimes I can get it within the given time, but sometimes I can’t. In either case, I enjoy working with PT members on all these new musical challenges. I joined the organization as a trainee in 2016 and am currently a full member.
